Want it Wednesday: Maternity Outfits | Frisco Baby Photographer

As a portrait photographer for Lovely Fitzgerald Photography, and a mom, there are a lot of things I want. So naturally, I feel the need to share these things with you, because I am sure they are things you will want to! I also feel the need to keep the love going, so it’s a nice way to get some of my favorite and preferred vendors names out there!

If you didn’t know, I am currently six months pregnant, so have pregnancy on the brain recently. Last week I talked about some of my favorite vendors for newborn and maternity wraps. This week I will be talking about some of my preferred vendors for maternity outfits. I get asked all the time by clients what they should wear. With temperatures soaring right now, it can be difficult to think about how to dress for your maternity session, so I thought I would share with you some summer and fall maternity pieces that would be perfect for pregnancy portraits.

What To Wear:

When it comes to maternity portraits, really anything you feel confident in works. However, there are some guidelines to follow to make the best of your maternity session.

  • Your outfit should be comfortable
  • Try to pick a fabric that has a bit of stretch to it instead of being skin tight
  • Soft draping and flowing fabrics work really well
  • Avoid wearing anything too tight or anything that will leave a mark on your skin
  • Avoid full panel pregnancy pants, as they will leave a line across your belly
  • Fold over skirts and dresses work well
  • Keep the focus on the belly!
  • If you are uncomfortable with your arms, wear a 3/4 or long sleeve shirt or bring a scarf to cover them up when exposing your belly
  • Bring at least one outfit change
  • Bring a strapless bra so you can expose belly and put a wrap around chest for privacy
  • Wear clothes that are classic. You don’t want to cringe at your maternity photos ten years from now because of the trendy outfit you were wearing.
  • Have your partner or children coordinate with you instead of matching you exactly.
  • Drink lots of water and avoid salty foods before your shoot so you are not bloated
  • Lather your skin up in lotion before the shoot so it is soft and smooth (unscented lotion if you will be outside so you don’t get attacked by insects)

In addition to clothing, a wrap or fabric can help offer privacy to a mother, while showcasing her beautiful belly at the same time. Here are some ways a wrap can be used in a maternity session:

  • Wrap around chest or strapless bra to create privacy, yet exposing stomach
  • Wrap around waist as a skirt
  • Drape over stomach (this is great if you want to hide stretch marks)

Here are some of my favorite places to purchase maternity clothing:

Want it Wednesday: Maternity and Newborn Wraps | Dallas Baby Photographer

As a portrait photographer for Lovely Fitzgerald Photography, and a mom, there are a lot of things I want. So naturally, I feel the need to share these things with you, because I am sure they are things you will want to! I also feel the need to keep the love going, so it’s a nice way to get some of my favorite and preferred vendors names out there!

Last week I talked about some of my favorite vendors for Photoshop templates. This week I will be talking about some of my preferred vendors for maternity and newborn wraps. Right now I am all about the lace and vintage wraps, so I am going to talk about three vendors who have just that! One of a photographers best tools can be a wrap and there are countless ways to use a wrap in both newborn and maternity portraits!

When dealing with a fussy newborn, swaddling the baby in a wrap can instantly sooth them! Other than swaddling, here are some other suggestions for using a wrap with a newborn:

  • Cover any rashes, skin problems, or private areas mom and dad don’t want exposed
  • If parents want to keep the diaper on it is a great way to hide the diaper
  • If the wrap is long enough and stable enough, you can use it as a sling (only if you know how to do so safely!)
  • You can use a wrap as a backdrop, a mini blanket, or an overlay over a blanket
  • Wrap around the baby’s head and feet, creating a tight nest like shape or oval around baby. This has a similar effect as swaddling, but the baby’s skin is exposed.

Enough talk, let’s get to the list! Simply click on the shop name to be taken to their Etsy pages or websites.

Gracie’s Garden Designs – I LOVE their gorgeous vintage lace newborn/maternity wraps and they come in 18 different colors. Measuring in at 60″x22″, these are big enough to be used as a maternity or a newborn wrap. They also have a great selection of hats, luxury furs, and newborn cocoons.

Lilian Grace – Vintage inspired pieces that have an organic and chic feel. All of their wraps are rough 50″x16″, making them big enough for newborn wraps or as a small maternity wrap. They also have a beautiful collection of newborn bonnets and headbands as well as backdrops, canopies, and teepees. The great things about their shop is that they have a lot of wraps that can be used for boys as well!

Lilian Grace Stretch Lace Wraps

Itsy Bitsy Blooms – This Etsy shop has a mix of stretch lace wraps, stretch knit wraps, mohair wraps, and ruffle stretch wraps. I like that they sell some of their wraps in a set that comes with a headband, a crown, or some other newborn prop. Some of their wraps are on the smaller side, so are meant more for newborns, but a few of their knit wraps were longer, so could be used as a small maternity wrap. They also have tons of headbands, crowns, halos, and other newborn accessories. Their shop is definitely tailored more for girl newborns.

Want it Wednesday: Photoshop Templates | Frisco Baby Photographer

As a portrait photographer and a mom, there are a lot of things I want. So naturally, I feel the need to share these things with you, because I am sure they are things you will want to! I also feel the need to keep the love going, so it’s a nice way to get some of my favorite and preferred vendors names out there!

Last week I talked about camera bags, where I confessed my desire for a Shoot Sac Tote. This week I will be talking about some of my preferred vendors for Photoshop templates. One of the reasons I wanted to talk about these vendors this week is because I see a lot of “Christmas in July” sales floating around in these companies, so make sure you check them out and take advantage of some amazing deals!

With a background in design, I make a lot of my own templates when it comes to my photography business, however every now and then I will turn to someone else. A lot of the time this is mainly a time saver for me, more than a necessity.

I have found almost all of these vendors through Etsy, which I am shamelessly addicted to, and have since started following them on Facebook or through their blogs.

Enough talk, let’s get to the list! Simply click on the shop name to be taken to their Etsy pages or websites.
